THE STONE CATCHERS:
Christians interrupting spiritual violence through acts of public witness
If you are one of the many Christians observing the rise of fascism and saying, “We know we need to be doing something. We know we need to be saying something. But we don’t know what or how,”
the Stone Catcher training is for you.
The Stone Catcher Training
Join the long lineage of Christians taking scandalous action to disrupt spiritual violence
-
We will pull aside, breathe, eat good food, and remember why we’re here in the first place. Led by a queer priest & theologian and a queer somatic practitioner, we will walk a multi-step queer path that is theological, experiential, and somatic. Together we will work to draw out the somatic and spiritual wisdom that is already at work in your community.
-
Drawing on expertise from the world of political consulting and with close attention to Christian scripture, tradition, and history, participants will be asked to practice Christian scandal by identifying one spiritual intervention that we will enact together in the public square.
-
To intervene in the spiritual violence of White Christian Nationalism and its escalating harm against our neighbors, your project will draw explicitly upon the Christian tradition, bearing witness to the lineage of Jesus who refused to be a bystander to violence perpetrated in God’s name. We’ll be there to support you in planning and implementation.

When Jesus entered Jerusalem on Palm Sunday, he confronted both an oppressive political regime and a compromised religious establishment. Feeling the weight of Rome’s boot, throngs of people lined the street to remember who they were: a people called by God, beloved of God, who knew their inherent worth could never be taken from them. Their cry, “Hosanna!” (“Save us now!”) was both plea and joyous refrain.
Today, the need for authentic Christian witness is urgent. We will not sit by as our immigrant neighbors are hunted and our trans neighbors demonized. On Palm Sunday, we will remember who we are called to be: neighbors who need each other, neighbors who value each other, neighbors who will rise to catch stones thrown at members of our community. Please join us.
